If you're going by last year's memory, you'll show up to the Cantaloupe Festival a week too early. In 2025, the 40th annual Fallon Cantaloupe Festival & Country Fair ran August 22 through 24. This year, the 41st edition lands August 28 through 30, about a week later on the calendar, at the same 3C Event Complex on Sheckler Road. That shift alone is worth knowing if you're the kind of person who plans a August weekend around a fair that's been happening since before most of Fallon High's current graduating class was born.
But the date change is the small story. The bigger one is what's happening two weeks earlier, and why the same nonprofit shows up at both ends of the month doing two completely different jobs.
Two Weekends, Two Different Reasons to Show Up
Fallon's August isn't one long celebration. It's two distinct events with almost nothing in common except the calendar page they share.
The 12th Annual Fallon/Churchill County Communitywide Reunion runs August 14 and 15. It's built for people who used to live here: former classmates, retired teachers, families who moved away and are back for a weekend of open houses. The whole thing is free. There's a Friday night concert, a Saturday breakfast, and building tours that only make sense if you already have a reason to care what the inside of the Old Post Office looks like.
The Cantaloupe Festival & Country Fair, by contrast, is Fallon's pitch to everyone else. It's the event the Fallon Festival Association uses to bring in visitors from around Northern Nevada, and it charges admission because it has to. It's the town's biggest agricultural showcase, timed to the Hearts of Gold cantaloupe harvest, and it draws crowds the reunion never tries to.

The reunion looks backward. The fair looks outward. Most towns this size only manage one big civic event a year. Fallon runs both, back to back, and somehow the same small nonprofit ends up load-bearing for each.
The Theatre That Doesn't Take August Off
Here's the part that doesn't show up in a typical events roundup. The Fallon Theatre isn't just one name on a long list of August happenings. It's hosting the reunion's opening night, running its own building tours the next morning, and then two weeks later it's the beneficiary of a race held across town.
The theatre itself confirmed the double duty in its own community update, noting it's hosting the kick-off concert and theatre tours for the 12th Annual Community Wide Reunion on Aug. 14 and 15, then turning around for the Cantaloupe Canter 5K on Aug. 29. On the 14th, the free concert with Kat & Dave kicks off the reunion weekend on the Fallon Theatre stage. On the morning of the 15th, the theatre opens its doors for tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., part of a full slate of building tours that also includes the Old High School, the Cottage Schools, the Douglass House, the police department, the old post office, and City Hall, running 10 a.m. to noon that same day.
Then the theatre steps back into a different role. The Cantaloupe Canter 5K on Saturday, August 29, meets in front of the Churchill County Aquatic Center at 333 Sheckler Road, with check-in at 7 a.m. and the race starting at 8. It's a fun run, not a fundraiser gala, and the money it raises goes directly to preserving the historic theatre building downtown. Early registration runs $25, day-of is $30, and anyone who signed up by August 7 locked in a race shirt.
So the same organization that gave the reunion its opening night and its open houses is, two weeks later, asking the town to lace up and support it. That's not a coincidence built into a press release. It's how a small nonprofit theatre in a farm town keeps its lights on: cultural host in week one, fundraising beneficiary in week two, using the two biggest gatherings of the summer to do both jobs.
The Fair Itself Moved, and the Details Changed With It
Beyond the date shift, a few other things are worth knowing if you haven't been paying close attention since last year.
Last year, the festival's box office and main entrance moved to the Rafter 3C indoor arena, and last year's hours ran Friday 1 p.m. to midnight, Saturday 9 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year's official listing confirms the same Friday 1 p.m. start time for the new dates, plus free parking and ATMs on site, according to the festival's own ticket page.
Pricing for 2026 wasn't posted in detail as of this writing, but last year's structure gives a sense of what to expect: day passes ran $12 online or $15 at the box office for adults, $6 online or $8 at the door for kids, with weekend passes at $20 online or $25 at the gate for adults and $9 online or $12 at the door for kids.
This is the 41st year of the festival, and the association has framed the milestone against a bigger backdrop. The event falls under America's 250th anniversary programming this year, tying the local harvest tradition to the national one. Last year, marking 40 years, festival association executive director Adrienne Snow put it this way:
"It's a celebration of everything that makes Fallon special. We're thrilled to honor four decades of tradition with new experiences and timeless favorites."
A year later, the tradition is one year longer and the timing has shifted about a week, but the shape of the thing hasn't changed.
What Actually Happens Once You're There
The reunion weekend runs on nostalgia and open doors. Saturday morning starts with a free breakfast on the Lariat Patio at Oats Park Art Center alongside a Show-n-Shine car show and antique tractor display, running 8 to 10 a.m. From there it's building tours until noon, then a free Concert in the Park later that day at Oats Park featuring Boot Juice, a touring six-piece rock and Americana act out of Northern California. It's the kind of day where you run into three people you went to school with before you've had your second cup of coffee.
The fair runs on volume. Country fair exhibits fill the Barrel House, and the outdoor grounds host more than 200 vendor booths covering food, drink, agriculture displays, and handmade goods, according to last year's event coverage. Fresh cantaloupe shows up everywhere, in daiquiris, in ice cream, alongside the usual fair fare. Carnival rides run through Schoeppner's, and there are turkey races, pony rides, train rides, and a petting zoo for the kids. A Cantaloupe King and Queen are part of the festival's broader tradition each year, a title that's been part of the celebration for decades.

What's easy to miss is how deliberately the town has stitched two very different kinds of gathering into the same sixteen days, and how much of the connective tissue runs through one small theatre that never quite gets a month off.
